PRESENTS A TRIBUTE TO LOUIS “SATCHMO” ARMSTRONG

Concord, NH- As part of “A Moment in Time” Series, The Capitol Center Orchestra, under the direction of Clayton J. Poole, will pay tribute to Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong on Sunday May 6th at 4:00pm. The tribute features the acclaimed Jazz trumpet Artist
Byron Stripling. The performance will be held at the Capitol Center for the Arts with tickets starting at $20.
Since his debut at Carnegie Hall with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops, Stripling has toured the country soloing with numerous music groups including the Boston Pops, the Vancouver Symphony and the American Jazz Philharmonic. A Count Basie Band alumnus, Stripling has recorded extensively with the bands of Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Dave Brubeck, and Lionel Hampton, in addition to The Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and The GPR All Star Big Band.
Stripling, who holds a global reputation as an outstanding musician and performer, was selected by Conductor John Williams of the Boston Pops Orchestra as the featured soloist on the PBS television special Evening at Pops. From Broadway and Basin Street to the Ginza and London's West End, Stripling's burnished sound has entertained millions. Fittingly, Stripling was chosen, following a world-wide search, to star in the lead role of the Broadway bound musical, "Satchmo."
An accomplished actor and singer, Stripling has performed in Broadway musicals, television shows and films, including a critically acclaimed virtuoso trumpet and comedic performance in the 42nd Street production of From Second Avenue to Broadway.
From New Orleans to New York and around the globe, the legacy of Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong is just as strong today as it has ever been and it continues to grow. For over fifty years, “Satchmo” personified the great American jazz art form. “Ambassador Satch” toured the world sharing his unique style and famous gravelly vocals. His hits included “Stardust”, “What A Wonderful World”, “Ain’t Misbehavin”, “Struttin’ with Some Barbeque” and , of course, “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In”. In 1964 he knocked the Beatles off the Billboard Top 100 with his version of “Hello Dolly”, which gave the 63 year old icon a U.S. record as the oldest artist to have a number one song.
