Pittman's Freight Room

Tall Granite Big Band - 8 pm

94 New Salem St.
Laconia NH 03246
United States (603) 527-0043 [map]
Price: $10.00 cover

Tall Granite will play it! Remember how music used to be, before live bands needed an electrician and a forklift? Back when a piano, some horns, a doghouse bass, and a drummer beating swing-time used to be enough to rouse a room? We do! From the syncopated heart of New Hampshire, the Tall Granite Jazz Band sound is a spirited homage to Chicago-style "Hot" jazz from the Roaring 1920s, into the Swing jazz of the ‘30s, ‘40s, ‘50s and even ‘70s! Our influences range from King Oliver to Oliver Nelson, with stops at Louis Armstrong, George Gershwin, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael, Miles Davis, Cole Porter, Louis Jordan, Van Morrison, and even Hank Williams! which is a 17-piece Swing band plus a vocalist. Check out our Facebook page (TALL GRANITE BIG BAND) for lots of pictures and some video clips from our unique repertoire of Swing.

So if you're done with dueling banjos, screaming guitars, or amorphous sonic navel-gazing, grab your two-tone shoes, slick back that hair, turn back the clock and swing and stomp or just relax to the Tall Granite Jazz Band's smokey horns and good-time jazz!

Pitman’s Freight Room is a unique function hall for all occasions. Located in the center of the Lakes Region in downtown Laconia, NH. It’s a bit unassuming from the outside, but this former freight depot in view of many historical landmarks has been completely renovated with modern amenities and a large dance floor. Any occasion: weddings, banquets, or musical events will be enhanced by its rustic charm and its antique furniture creating a warm comfortable atmosphere. Pitman’s is also rapidly becoming the premier location for arts and entertainment in the Lakes Region. They host live music every week with outstanding musicians from all over the country. Seating is general admission and BYOB.

Dave Howland CD Release Party - 7 pm

5 Granite St.
Newmarket NH 03857
United States (603) 659-7700 [map]
Price: Tix $10 - includes show

The above is a link to a video by Dave Howland, with whose band I will be appearing on keys and saxes that night.  Dave is a talented singer/songwriter and this is a release party for his new CD,"Something's Going On."

I hope you can join us as we open the evening for "Back On The Train."

Falling somewhere between singer-songwriter-based based roots rock and indie pop, New Hampshire / Greater Boston -based Back on the Train mixes 60s, 70s, and 90s influences into crisp, melodic songs with soulful vocals, funk and reggae rhythms, and the occasional straight up dance groove.
